Supplementary dental insurance: what it covers and what it does not
Anyone who only needs it once the plan is on the table needs it too late.
Supplementary dental insurance steps in where the fixed allowance stops. Depending on the tariff it covers part or most of the own share.
The three adjusting screws
Waiting period: in the first months usually nothing is paid. Benefit cap: in the first years the benefit is capped. Current findings: whatever is already missing or already advised when the contract is signed is as a rule excluded.
The timing decides
So the rule is: you take out supplementary insurance while your teeth are in order. If the treatment and cost plan is already there, it is too late – and signing quickly changes nothing about that.
What to compare
Not the premium alone, but the reimbursement rate for dental prostheses, the benefit cap of the first years and whether implants are included. We do not recommend tariffs and do not broker any.
