Caring for dental prostheses properly

Prostheses themselves do not get decay. The tooth underneath does, and the gum around them becomes inflamed as it does anywhere else. That is why the focus of care lies exactly where the two meet.

With crowns and bridges

The crown margin at the gum and the spaces between the teeth. Interdental brushes in the right size matter more here than any toothpaste. Under a pontic you clean with superfloss or a special brush.

With dentures

Take them out daily and clean them mechanically – in detail under Cleaning a denture. Your own abutment teeth need the greatest attention in the process.

With implants

Just as consistently, with one difference: an implant does not report inflammation through pain. What becomes inflamed there is only noticed at the check-up – and by then it is often already advanced.
