Dental prostheses on implants: screwed firmly instead of resting in place

An implant replaces the root. The visible part – crown, bridge or denture – is a prosthesis like any other, only on an artificial abutment instead of on your own tooth. That distinction helps when comparing: it is not about implant or prosthesis, but about what the prosthesis sits on.

What that changes

The neighbouring teeth stay untouched – that is the biggest difference from a bridge. And the bone continues to be loaded and therefore does not recede as much as under a denture. In return it takes surgery, a healing period and enough bone.

From a single tooth to a whole jaw

One implant can carry a single Crown , several together a Bridge, and four to six implants can restore an edentulous jaw with a fixed solution or an implant denture .
