Dental prostheses with little bone

The jawbone lives on chewing pressure. If the tooth roots that pass it on are missing, it recedes – fastest in the first years after the tooth loss.

What that means for the restoration

Removable prostheses rest on the alveolar ridge. If that is flat, the hold is missing. Implants need bone they can be placed in – in height and in width.

Bone grafting

Missing bone can in many cases be built up, with your own bone or with substitute material. That extends the treatment by months and costs extra. Whether it is necessary and what it achieves belongs in detail on the Implantat-Berater.

The alternative

Shorter implants, a different position, a restoration with fewer abutments – or deliberately the removable solution, well made and relined regularly. Not every path has to lead through surgery.
