The partial crown: preserving as much tooth as possible

A partial crown covers only the damaged part of the tooth and leaves healthy walls standing. It therefore sits between a filling and a full crown – and it preserves considerably more of your own substance.

When it comes into question

When one or two cusps are missing but the rest of the tooth is stable. If the wall is thin all round, or if there is a crack reaching below the gum, a partial crown no longer holds.

What health insurance says about it

The ceramic partial crown is not a standard care. It is invoiced as a restoration of the same kind: fixed allowance yes, difference private. That is why it is proposed less often than would be medically sensible – ask about it.
