Denture broken: repair and relining

A fracture rarely comes out of nowhere. Usually the denture no longer fits exactly, is bent during chewing and at some point breaks at the weakest point – or it has been dropped.

What you should do straight away

Keep all the pieces, even small ones. Do not glue it with superglue: the glue makes a proper repair impossible and has no business in the mouth. A repair in the laboratory often takes only hours.

Relining instead of remaking

As long as the teeth and the acrylic are in order, relining is the right way – it gives the denture a hold again without everything being made anew. Only when the acrylic is brittle or the bite no longer fits is a new piece of work worthwhile.

What health insurance pays

Repairs and relinings are services of the statutory health insurance. You do not need a new treatment and cost plan for them.
