Denture will not hold or presses: what is behind it

A denture that sat well at first and wobbles after years has rarely become worse itself. The jawbone underneath has receded – a normal process once the tooth roots that used to load it are missing.

What can be done about it

Relining: the denture is filled up on the inside with acrylic until it fits the changed jaw again. That is a small intervention on the workpiece, not a rebuild, and is normal every few years.

Pressure sores

They are part of settling in and are worked on afterwards. What is not part of it: lasting pain, open areas, a burning feeling. Wear the denture before the appointment, otherwise the spot cannot be seen.

When relining is no longer enough

If the alveolar ridge has flattened considerably, no denture finds a hold any more. Then two to four implants as press studs help – the implant denture is for many people the point at which eating becomes a pleasure again.
