The telescopic denture: firm enough to forget about

The telescopic denture is the most elaborate form of removable prosthesis and for many the best. The remaining teeth receive inner crowns, the denture the matching outer crowns; the two hold together by friction.

Its great advantage only shows over the years: if an abutment tooth is lost, the denture is usually reworked rather than remade. With a bridge the whole restoration would be affected.

The critical point is the margin of the inner crowns. Decay arises there if it is not cleaned thoroughly every day — here the care decides the durability more than the material does.
