Dental prostheses and long-term care: what has changed

People with a recognised level of care need are entitled to additional dental prevention: recording of oral health status, an individual plan, instruction of carers, removal of hard deposits.

For dental prostheses that is more than a formality. A denture that is not cleaned leads to inflammation and at some point is no longer worn — and then the diet changes.

A practical tip: dentures should be marked with the wearer's name. In care homes they otherwise get lost, and a replacement takes weeks.
